The San Diego Central Courthouse sits downtown; UC San Diego Medical Center and Scripps Mercy Hospital — the county's only two Level I trauma centers, meaning full-time, in-house trauma surgery and every major specialty — are both in Hillcrest, a few minutes' drive north. If your accident happened anywhere in the city and required serious hospital care, there's a good chance the record trail runs through one of those two hospitals, which makes gathering complete medical documentation more straightforward than it is in counties where the trauma center is an hour from the courthouse.
