Getting the report after a crash in Anaheim
Which agency wrote your report depends on where you were hurt. On Anaheim's surface streets, that is usually the Anaheim Police Department. Its records office is at 425 S. Harbor Boulevard and is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., closed weekends and city holidays. The department's website links to a request form for non-fatal traffic collision reports, and requests are reviewed in the order received. Only authorized people can ask, such as someone injured or a witness, or an insurance carrier with a claim.
On the freeways, the California Highway Patrol writes the report. The CHP's Westminster Area office says it covers freeways close to Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, while the Santa Ana Area office lists I-5, SR-91, and SR-22 among its routes. A CHP report is requested on form CHP 190, in person at an Area office or by mail, and only a party of interest such as a driver, passenger, or vehicle owner can ask for it.

When a city, a bus, or a state road is part of the story
Some Anaheim injury cases involve a public body instead of, or along with, a private driver. The City of Anaheim takes claims through its City Clerk's office at 200 S. Anaheim Boulevard, Suite 217. The clerk forwards each claim to Risk Management, which says it will contact you within two weeks of filing.
The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) runs bus service along Harbor Boulevard (Route 43), Katella Avenue (Route 50), Main Street (Route 53), and State College Boulevard (Route 57). OCTA also operates ARTIC, the transportation center where Metrolink, Pacific Surfliner trains, and OCTA buses connect. Caltrans District 12 serves Orange County, which matters if a state highway or ramp played a role in the crash.
The common thread is timing. A written government claim generally must be presented within six months (Government Code 911.2), far shorter than the usual two years. Missing it can end a claim before it starts. If a private driver, a rideshare, or a tour vehicle caused your crash, the two-year period under Code of Civil Procedure 335.1 generally applies instead. What the state's 2022 crash rankings say about Anaheim
The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) ranks cities of similar size against each other, and rank 1 is the worst. In its 2022 rankings, Anaheim sits in Population Group A, cities with more than 250,000 people, alongside 14 others. Anaheim ranked 7th of 15 for total fatal and injury crash victims, with 2,024 victims counted.
Two lines stand out. For alcohol-involved crashes, Anaheim ranked 2nd of 15, with 256 victims. For pedestrian victims it ranked 13th of 15 (97 victims), and for bicyclist victims 10th of 15 (78 victims). Put simply, impaired driving showed up near the top of that list, while walking and biking numbers sat closer to the bottom.
A ranking cannot tell you what happened to you. It does suggest that alcohol is a real factor in Anaheim crashes, which is one reason the police report, any DUI arrest, and the time of day can matter to a claim. Some injured people only learn later that the other driver was arrested. Ask for the report early, and write your own notes about the scene while your memory is fresh.
