The Level II trauma center serving the Antelope Valley, and your first medical records
Antelope Valley Hospital, also called Antelope Valley Medical Center, is at 1600 West Avenue J. That is in Lancaster, not Palmdale, so factor the drive into any decision you make about where to go. The hospital's website lists it as a Level II Trauma Center and says its trauma department is the only Level II Trauma Center within 50 miles. Its emergency department, open around the clock, says it treats more than 130,000 patients a year.
In an emergency, paramedics decide where to take you based on your condition, so you may not choose the hospital. What you can control is the record that is created there. Tell the staff exactly how you were hurt, name every part of your body that hurts, and ask for a copy of your emergency chart and imaging reports. Headaches, stiffness, and numbness that start a day or two later should be reported at your next visit and written down in a simple log.
A long drive home from a high-desert highway crash can make people skip follow-up care. Try not to. Highway 14, the 138, and the desert roads around Palmdale: who responds
Some of the roads Palmdale drivers use most are not city streets. The California Highway Patrol's Antelope Valley Area office, at 2041 West Avenue I in Lancaster, says it patrols approximately 30 miles of State Route 14 between Acton and the Kern County line. It also lists roughly 1,400 miles of unincorporated roads, including Angeles Forest Highway, Angeles Crest Highway, State Route 138, and State Route 18. Its phone number is (661) 743-6060.
For crashes on local roads, the Sheriff's Palmdale Station, at 750 East Avenue Q, is the likely agency. It serves 15 communities, among them Palmdale, Acton, Agua Dulce, Littlerock, Llano, Pearblossom, and Leona Valley. The station's main number is (661) 272-2400, and its Traffic division is at (661) 272-2424. A crash in Pearblossom and a crash inside the city limits could therefore have different agencies on the report.
For perspective, the state's 2023 crash rankings put Palmdale 20th of 62 cities in its population group for total fatal and injury crashes. That is closer to the middle than the top, and it describes only the city. Rural highways have their own risks, and remoteness can delay help.
The city's Transportation Center, Metrolink, AVTA buses, and the six-month clock
The Palmdale Transportation Center, at 39000 Clock Tower Plaza Drive, is owned and operated by the City of Palmdale. Metrolink's Antelope Valley Line stops there, and the Antelope Valley Transit Authority uses it as a bus hub, with local routes 1, 3, 7, 8, and 51 and commuter routes 785, 786, 787, and 790. It has a park-and-ride lot with 750 spaces. A fall in that lot, a collision with a shuttle, or an incident on a platform could involve the city, a transit agency, or both.
For public bodies, the timing is different from an ordinary car crash. Under Government Code section 911.2, you generally have six months to present a written government claim. Code of Civil Procedure 335.1 generally allows two years against a private party. Caltrans District 7, which covers Los Angeles and Ventura counties, is another possible target when state routes are involved.
