Who makes the stop: the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station and CHP on the I-15
Wildomar has never run its own police department. Since incorporating, the city has contracted with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department for law enforcement, with patrol services based out of the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station, 333 Limited Avenue, Lake Elsinore — the same station that covers neighboring Lake Elsinore itself. A deputy who stops someone for suspected DUI on Wildomar's surface streets, including the Palomar Street and Clinton Keith Road corridors, is typically working out of that station rather than a dedicated Wildomar sub-station, because none exists. On Interstate 15 itself — the freeway that cuts through Wildomar's eastern edge and carries the bulk of weekend and commuter traffic between Murrieta/Temecula and Lake Elsinore/Corona — the California Highway Patrol's Temecula Area office, 27685 Commerce Center Drive, Temecula, has jurisdiction instead, alongside I-215, SR-74, SR-79, and SR-371.
- Wildomar incorporated on July 1, 2008 — Riverside County's 25th city — and before that was an unincorporated community, so it has no decades-long city police department of its own to point to; the Sheriff's contract model has applied the entire time it has been a city.
- Sheriff's checkpoints are a recurring part of local DUI enforcement: a June 2025 operation at Palomar Street and Harwood Lane in Wildomar screened 725 vehicles over a single evening, resulting in citations and arrests — the department has said checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests in the area, not placed at random.
Your case is heard in Murrieta — the Southwest Justice Center
A DUI arrest anywhere in Wildomar — on I-15, Palomar Street, Clinton Keith Road, or elsewhere in the city — is filed at the Southwest Justice Center, 30755 Auld Road, Murrieta, CA 92563. This isn't an inference: the Southwest Justice Center's own dedicated page on this site already names Wildomar directly, listing it alongside Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee, Lake Elsinore, and Canyon Lake as cities the courthouse serves. The building holds thirteen courtrooms across four floors and is the only criminal courthouse for the entire I-15 southwest corridor, so a Wildomar case is not shipped to the Riverside Hall of Justice or to Indio for arraignment.
The Riverside County District Attorney's Southwest Region office prosecutes the case, not the City of Wildomar — Wildomar, like most smaller California cities, does not maintain its own city attorney's office for misdemeanor DUI prosecution. A misdemeanor DUI typically stays at the Southwest Justice Center from arraignment through resolution; this site's own Southwest Justice Center page does not describe a split where felony DUI cases are routed to a separate building, so there is no basis here for claiming one.

Booking and the DMV clock after a Wildomar DUI arrest
The Southwest Justice Center shares its Auld Road campus in Murrieta with the Southwest Detention Center, and people arrested for DUI in Wildomar are commonly processed in that same Murrieta corridor rather than driven to the jails in Riverside or Indio — though we have not independently confirmed exact booking-and-transport protocol by calling the Sheriff's Department directly, and which facility actually holds someone can depend on how crowded county custody is on a given night. What is certain is that the DMV side of your case does not wait on any of that: the clock to request a DMV hearing runs from the moment of arrest, not from booking, release, or your first court date.
Wildomar has no DMV field office of its own
Wildomar itself has no DMV field office or kiosk. Lake Elsinore has a self-service kiosk at the Albertsons on Riverside Drive, but — consistent with how DMV kiosks work everywhere — that machine handles routine registration and record requests only; it cannot process a DUI administrative per se (APS) hearing request. The closest full-service DMV field office is in Temecula, 27851 Diaz Road, with a smaller "Express Office" location in Murrieta at 27890 Clinton Keith Road, Suite F (itself kiosk-equipped rather than a full walk-in office, per DMV's own office listings). In practice, a Wildomar DUI arrestee requesting an APS hearing is better served calling the DMV's statewide Driver Safety line directly — (833) 543-7703 — than trying to resolve a license-suspension matter at a kiosk. The 10-day countdown from arrest keeps running regardless of which office, if any, is nearby.
A portmanteau city built on the old Rancho La Laguna
Wildomar's name is a portmanteau assembled from its three founders: William Collier, Donald Graham, and Margaret Collier Graham — Collier's sister and Graham's wife — who, together with developer Franklin Heald, purchased the roughly 12,832-acre Rancho La Laguna land grant in 1885 and platted the townsite the following year. Heald, Graham, and Collier also went on to develop neighboring Elsinore from the same land grant, which is part of why Wildomar and Lake Elsinore's early histories are so intertwined even though they're separate cities today. For well over a century after that, Wildomar stayed an unincorporated community — ranching and horse country, with growth slowing for decades after an early rail line through the area washed out — before finally incorporating on July 1, 2008 as Riverside County's 25th city. The population has more than doubled since the 2000 census, when the area was still unincorporated; the 2020 Census counted 36,875 residents, with Census Bureau estimates putting it at roughly 37,000 by 2023.
The clearest physical link to that founding era still stands at the corner of Palomar Street and Central Avenue: a cast-iron school bell, originally mounted in the tower of Wildomar's first grammar school when it was built in 1886 on land the founders donated. The original schoolhouse was torn down in the 1950s, but a monument built in 1959 preserved the bell, and local volunteers restored it again in 2006. West of downtown, Wildomar also borders the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve off Clinton Keith Road — more than 9,000 acres of protected grassland, vernal pools, and oak groves — and the city opened a new community park with views toward the reserve in 2019. Those open spaces are part of why Wildomar still reads as noticeably less developed than Murrieta or Temecula just to its south, even as its population climbs.
