How DUIs are policed in Paramount
Paramount does not run its own municipal police department. The city contracts with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, patrolled from the Paramount Sheriff's Station, 15001 Paramount Blvd, Paramount, CA 90723 — a sub-station that operates under the Lakewood Station chain of command, with roughly 30 Sheriff's personnel assigned to the city, including patrol deputies, a detective team, and a special assignment team. Paramount also contracts separately with LA County for a dedicated probation officer and a dedicated deputy district attorney assigned to the city's cases.
Interstate 105 (Century Freeway) and Interstate 710 (Long Beach Freeway) both run through or along Paramount, with State Route 91 just to the south. The CHP's Santa Fe Springs Area office (10051 Orr and Day Rd, Santa Fe Springs) lists Paramount among the cities in its patrol area and covers I-105 in the area; the segment of I-710 along Paramount's western edge can also draw a response from a neighboring CHP office depending on the exact location of the stop. In practice, a DUI stop on Paramount's surface streets — Alondra Boulevard, Paramount Boulevard, Somerset Boulevard — is typically made by a Sheriff's deputy, while a freeway stop is more likely to be CHP.

Booking and getting a car back after a Paramount arrest
A DUI arrest made by a Paramount Station deputy starts there, on Paramount Boulevard — but it's a processing stop, not where anyone stays. The county system takes over from there: men typically end up downtown in the Inmate Reception Center/Men's Central Jail/Twin Towers pipeline, while women are usually routed to the Century Regional Detention Facility, just over Paramount's own western line in Lynwood. Release timing — own recognizance, bail, or a cite-and-release — comes down to the specifics of the stop and the charge; if you're trying to locate someone, our office can help you track down which facility they ended up in.
A car towed or impounded from a Paramount stop is usually released from the tow yard the deputy designates on the scene; bring photo ID, proof of ownership/registration, and insurance, and expect to pay towing and storage fees.
Paramount: from "urban disaster area" to the City of Outdoor Art
Paramount's identity is rooted in a 1948 merger: the unincorporated dairy towns of Hynes and Clearwater — once known as "The Milk Shed of Los Angeles" — combined their post offices and, under a new name proposed by local Kiwanis figure Frank Zamboni, took the name of the street dividing them, Paramount Boulevard. The city formally incorporated on January 30, 1957, largely to fend off annexation by neighboring municipalities. At under 5 square miles, Paramount is one of the smaller, denser cities in the Gateway Cities region, bordered by Compton and Lynwood to the west, South Gate and Downey to the north, Bellflower to the east and south, and Long Beach to the south.
In 1981, a Rand Corporation study labeled Paramount an "urban disaster area." The city's response became its defining civic project: a public-art-driven revitalization that earned Paramount the National Civic League's "All-America City" award in 1988. That commitment is now written into city code — private development projects valued at $100,000 or more must devote at least 1% of building costs to public art or pay into the city's Public Art Fund — and it shows: Paramount markets itself as an "Outdoor Art Museum," runs an ongoing community mural initiative called Paramount Paints, and has added dozens of sculptures and murals to its public collection over the years, including a large community mosaic, "Brilliance of Community," unveiled as roughly the 65th piece in that collection.
