How DUIs are policed in Glendora
Unlike many smaller Los Angeles County cities, Glendora is not an LASD contract city — it runs its own Glendora Police Department, which has patrolled the city since 1926 and handles local DUI enforcement, checkpoints, and saturation patrols on surface streets. On the freeways, DUI enforcement through Glendora is generally handled by the California Highway Patrol's Baldwin Park Area office, which covers the I-210 and SR-57 — the two freeways meet at the Glendora Curve, right where they cross through the city.
That split matters for where a stop happens, not for where the case is filed — Glendora PD and CHP both route arrests to the same county court and prosecutor described below.
- Surface-street and local-event stops in Glendora Village, along Glendora Avenue, and on Route 66/Foothill Boulevard are typically made by Glendora PD.
- Freeway DUI stops on I-210 and SR-57 through Glendora are usually made by CHP's Baldwin Park Area office, (626) 517-8500.
- California's Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) ranked Glendora, a Group C city (population ~51,289), 45th of 103 similarly sized cities for DUI arrests and 71st of 103 for alcohol-involved collisions in its 2023 rankings, with 74 DUI arrests and 13 alcohol-involved victims (killed and injured) reported that year.
Where a Glendora DUI case is heard
Glendora has no city prosecutor of its own. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office files both misdemeanor and felony Glendora DUI charges, through the West Covina Area Office that handles filings for Glendora and the surrounding East San Gabriel Valley communities. Cases are heard at the West Covina Courthouse, part of the Los Angeles County Superior Court's East District. Ron Chini is admitted to practice statewide and appears in whichever courthouse a case is actually filed in.

Booking and getting a car back after a Glendora arrest
Glendora Police operates its own Type I jail at 150 S. Glendora Avenue, which books and temporarily houses pre-arraignment arrestees for both the City of Glendora and the City of Irwindale before they are released, bailed out, or transferred to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department custody. As a Type I facility under California's minimum jail standards, it is built for short-term intake rather than extended stays, and arrestees are told of their right to call family, an employer, or an attorney during booking. If your vehicle was towed or impounded as part of the stop, the arresting agency's records or property unit — Glendora PD if the stop was local, or the CHP Baldwin Park Area office if it happened on the freeway — is the first call to make about retrieving it.
Glendora's citrus heritage and Glendora Village
Glendora was founded in 1887 and incorporated on November 13, 1911, and for decades it was known as a center of the Southern California citrus industry — at its peak in 1947, local orange and lemon orchards covered more than 5,000 acres supported by six packing houses, and the city shipped oranges and lemons to the White House during President William Howard Taft's term. That history is still visible today in Glendora Village, the city's historic downtown along Glendora Avenue, with renovated early-1900s buildings — including the former opera house and a Pacific Electric station — now holding restaurants, cafes, and shops. The city calls itself the "Pride of the Foothills," sitting at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, which is also why DUI enforcement here splits between local Glendora PD patrols on Village and residential streets and CHP coverage where the I-210 and SR-57 meet at the Glendora Curve.
